It was a wonderful yet sobering time spent with friends this past weekend at the Divine Women’s Conference at Koinonia Christian Fellowship. One of the things I love most about Divine is how beautiful everything is. Every detail from the decorations, to the door prizes, to the food, and the unexpected gifts makes you feel loved and celebrated as a woman. I also cherish the way friendships were deepened and the way new friendships were forged.
The theme this year was “Masterpiece.” Based on Ephesians 2:10,
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
I was deeply impacted by the main speaker, Ann Pretorius. She and her husband started Joint Aid Management (JAM) International, a South African-founded Christian Non-Profit Organization that feeds over 1 million children every day.
The picture of the African trees was part of one of Ann’s messages. Visibly the trees show their painful struggle to survive. They remind us of the bruises and brutality that can come with life experience. Particularly for those living in extreme poverty. She talked about how the formation of these trees demonstrates hope in the pain.
Because of Ann (and the voices of others) I have been carrying this very personal and beautiful message within my heart since the conference:
“You are not second choice and you are not unqualified for the good things God has planned for you!”
This message has been a deep comfort to me. It has also caused my soul to bow in reverence to the One whose plans and purposes are far above my own. My prayer is that I would continually awaken to His love and His path for me that I may love and serve those who find themselves hungry, alone, and without hope.
Thank-you Beth and the Divine Team for this amazing gift year after year.
